Stories have connected humanity since before we could even speak and the earliest tales often involve magical people, gods, and creatures. When writers set out to build their own worlds, it's important to properly evaluate the magic system. This class will review different types of magic systems, identify commonalities, and discuss how to apply rules and when to break them.

Josh Palubicki is the marketing director for Writing Heights and is currently working on his debut novel. He has been immersed in magic systems since before he waited in line for the midnight releases of the Harry Potter series. He is joined by K.R. House, whose debut novel The Call of the Wind, book 1 of the Unmarked series, involves an intricate elemental magic system. She fell in love with reading at a young age, devouring books like Percy Jackson, The Hobbit, and The Hunger Games. She became obsessed with the idea of being a sci-fi and fantasy author in middle school and, despite her best efforts, has never been able to get over it.
When not writing, K.R. spends her time reading, running, watching anime, and hanging out with her husband and two cats.
